An Explosion of Creativity, Education, and Networking at Script-Com 2024!

With over 100 people attending Script-Com 2024, this turned out to be the largest screenwriting conference in the South!

The panels and seminars were packed at Nashville Film Institute on Saturday and then on Sunday at NECAT, the studio was jammed as Page 2 Screen host MK Kopp talked film, screenplay structure, and genre with our special guest Alvaro Rodriguez.

Here are some highlights:

  • Marti King-Young’s seminars on conflict and story psychology were literally standing-room only events!

  • Bob Saenz and Cat Stewart’s logline workshop saw over two dozen loglines submitted!

  • The genre breakout panels on writing crime stories, rom-coms, and action/horror were all jam-packed with information, advice, and tips from seasoned industry pros!

  • Some very brave people went in front of a large group of strangers, practiced their pitch, and got some great feedback!

  • Local writer/director Mike Bentley walked home with the trophy as the winner of our first Short ‘N Scary script contest for his short “Gray Hare,” which was the top-scoring submission by all three of our second-round judges. Inspired by our contest, Mike plans to shoot “Gray Hare” in 2025!

  • The participants on the writing for low-budget panel came to a unanimous conclusion: don’t wait for Hollywood to come to you… if it’s good, shoot it yourself!

  • Alvaro Rodriguez sat with us for over 90 minutes on Sunday to tape what will be an amazing series of Page 2 Screen episodes covering writing action movies, TV writers rooms, story structure, outlining, and a hundred other topics - stay tuned!

  • Alvaro awarded the prize for best chili in our “Hot Damn!” cookoff to none other than David Deverell, president of TSA!

  • The Renegade Independent Film Festival (aka “RIFF III”) screened 15 films made by TSA members!
